IMGLAB Video Screenshot — Chrome Extension

1. Overview

IMGLAB Video Screenshot (“the Extension”) is a Chrome browser extension that allows users to capture screenshots of video frames on any website. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

The short version: we collect nothing. All processing happens locally on your device.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

The Extension does not collect, transmit, store, or share any of the following:

  • Browsing history or URLs you visit
  • Video content or screenshots you capture
  • Personal information of any kind
  • Usage statistics or analytics
  • Crash reports or error logs
  • Cookies or tracking identifiers

We have no servers that receive data from this Extension. There is no backend, no database, and no analytics service connected to this Extension.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The Extension stores the following settings locally on your device using Chrome’s built-in chrome.storage.sync API:

  • Image format preference (JPEG, WebP, or PNG)
  • Image quality setting (10–100%)
  • Camera button position preference
  • Keyboard shortcut configuration
  • Minimum video size filter values
  • Your personal block list (domains where the extension is disabled)
  • Whether you have dismissed the setup notice banner

These settings are synced across your Chrome browsers if you are signed into Chrome. They are never transmitted to us or any third party. You can delete them at any time by removing the Extension.

4. Permissions Used and Why

activeTab

Used to identify the current tab’s domain so the Extension can check your block list. No tab content is read or stored.

tabs

Used to retrieve the current tab’s URL for block list checking within the settings popup.

storage

Used to save and load your extension settings (format, quality, shortcut, etc.) using Chrome’s built-in sync storage. Data stays on your device and within Chrome’s own infrastructure.

downloads

Used to save captured screenshot images directly to your device’s Downloads folder. No image is transmitted to any server.

host_permissions: <all_urls>

Required because the Extension needs to detect and add a camera button to video elements on any website. The Extension does not read, record, or transmit any web page content. It only injects a visual button element onto video players.

captureVisibleTab (via tabs permission)

Used only as a fallback when a video is hosted on a different domain from the page (cross-origin). In this case the browser’s security policy prevents direct frame capture via canvas. The Extension captures the visible tab screenshot, crops it to the exact bounds of the video element, and saves the resulting image to your device. The image is never sent to any server or third party.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not integrate with, connect to, or share data with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.

The Extension’s settings popup contains links to voluntary donation pages (Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee). These are standard hyperlinks that open in a new browser tab. Clicking them is entirely optional. Your use of those third-party websites is governed by their own privacy policies, which are independent of this Extension.

6. Children’s Privacy

This Extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. As stated above, the Extension collects no data whatsoever.

7. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this document. Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
