IMGLAB Video Speed Control — Chrome Extension
Last updated: March 2026

1. Overview

IMGLAB Video Speed Control (“the Extension”) is a Chrome browser extension that allows users to control video playback speed on any website, with per-site speed memory, keyboard shortcuts, and an on-page overlay controller. This Privacy Policy explains what data the Extension accesses, how it is used, and your rights as a user.

The short version: we collect nothing. All processing happens locally on your device.

2. Data We Do NOT Collect

The Extension does not collect, transmit, store, or share any of the following:

  • Browsing history or URLs you visit
  • Video content you watch
  • Personal information of any kind
  • Usage statistics or analytics
  • Crash reports or error logs
  • Cookies or tracking identifiers

We have no servers that receive data from this Extension. There is no backend, no database, and no analytics service connected to this Extension.

3. Data Stored Locally on Your Device

The Extension stores the following settings locally on your device using Chrome’s built-in chrome.storage.sync API:

  • Preferred playback speed
  • Speed step, minimum speed, and maximum speed values
  • Cycle speeds list
  • On-page controller opacity and visibility preference
  • Whether to remember speed per site
  • Per-site speed memory (a map of domain names to saved speeds)
  • Keyboard shortcut configuration

These settings are synced across your Chrome browsers if you are signed into Chrome. They are never transmitted to us or any third party. You can delete them at any time by removing the Extension.

4. Permissions Used and Why

activeTab
Used to identify the current tab’s domain so the Extension can load and save your per-site speed preference for that site. No tab content is read or stored.

tabs
Used to retrieve the current tab’s URL so the extension popup can display the correct saved speed for the active site and send speed changes to the active tab in real time.

storage
Used to save and load your extension settings (speeds, shortcuts, opacity, etc.) using Chrome’s built-in sync storage. Data stays on your device and within Chrome’s own infrastructure.

host_permissions: <all_urls>
Required because the Extension needs to detect video elements and inject a small speed-control overlay onto video players on any website. The Extension does not read, record, or transmit any web page content. It only injects a visual controller element onto video players and adjusts the video element’s playbackRate property.

5. Third-Party Services

The Extension does not integrate with, connect to, or share data with any third-party services, analytics platforms, or advertising networks.

The Extension’s settings popup contains links to voluntary donation pages (Ko-fi and Buy Me a Coffee). These are standard hyperlinks that open in a new browser tab. Clicking them is entirely optional. Your use of those third-party websites is governed by their own privacy policies, which are independent of this Extension.

6. Children’s Privacy

This Extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. As stated above, the Extension collects no data whatsoever.

7. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this document. Continued use of the Extension after any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
